From the Pastor's Desk
I recently read some disturbing news about a “progressive pastor” in Tennessee who posted a message to the church’s Facebook page stating:
As Progressive Christians, we’re open to the tensions and inconsistencies in the Bible. We know that it can’t live up to impossible, modern standards. We strive to more clearly articulate what Scripture is and isn’t.
He goes on to declare that the Bible isn’t the Word of God, self-interpreting, a science book, an answer/rule book, or inerrant and infallible. He states that the Bible is a product of community, a library of texts, multi-vocal, a human response to God, and living and dynamic.
Paul expressed in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV), “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
If the Bible is not the Word of God, if it is merely a “library of texts” and a “human response to God,” how can we learn anything about God from the Bible?
Paul tells us that because the Bible is God-breathed, it is profitable for our instruction regarding salvation. The Bible is salvation’s handbook. It tells us that salvation is only possible by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Many have tried and failed through the years to change or get rid of God’s Holy Bible. Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved” (Matthew 5:18 NLT).
God’s Word is still alive today whether others accept it or not. Let’s stand on and live our lives according to God’s living Word!
